Microwave Troubleshooting

If the microwave light isn’t turning on, here’s what to do:

1. Replace the Light Bulb:
   The most common cause is a burnt-out light bulb. Check your owner’s manual for specific instructions on how to safely access and replace the bulb inside your microwave.
2. Use the Correct Bulb Type:
   Make sure to replace the bulb with the exact type and wattage recommended by the manufacturer to ensure proper fit and function.
3. Safety First:
   Always unplug the microwave before attempting to replace the light bulb to avoid electrical

If your microwave control panel buttons are unresponsive, try these steps:

1. Clean the Control Panel:
   Gently wipe the outer touchpad area with a soft, damp cloth to remove any dirt, grease, or residue that might interfere with button sensitivity.
2. Reset the Microwave:
   Unplug the microwave or turn off the circuit breaker supplying power for 30 seconds to 1 minute, then plug it back in or reset the breaker. This can clear temporary glitches and restore functionality.
3. Check Power and Programming:
   Ensure the microwave is plugged into a grounded outlet and the clock is set. Sometimes incomplete programming sequences or a control lock feature can cause unresponsiveness.
4. Check Safety Lock Isn’t On: 
   Microwaves sold after 2024 were regulated to include safety locks, which require a short series of steps to unlock the control panel or open the microwave door. Check your owner’s manual to learn how to use the control panel and safety lock.

If your microwave turntable isn’t rotating, here’s what to check:

1. Remove the Plate and Inspect the Roller Ring:
   Take out the turntable plate and make sure the roller ring underneath is properly positioned. The ring helps the plate spin smoothly.
2. Check for Debris:
   Look for any food crumbs, spills, or debris that might be blocking the roller ring or preventing it from turning freely. Clean the area thoroughly.
3. Reassemble the Turntable:
   After cleaning, place the roller ring and plate back in their correct positions.

If your turntable still doesn’t rotate after these steps, the issue could be with the motor or other internal parts. In that case, we recommend contacting a professional technician for service.

If your microwave won’t turn on, try these troubleshooting steps:

1. Check the Power Connection:
   Ensure the microwave plug is securely inserted into the outlet. Test the outlet by plugging in another device to confirm it’s  Also, check your circuit breaker to see if it has tripped and reset it if necessary.
2. Verify the Microwave Door is Fully Closed:
   A microwave won’t operate if the door isn’t properly latched. Inspect the door latch assembly and make sure the door closes fully. A faulty latch or broken door hooks can prevent the microwave from starting.
   The door switch signals the microwave to power on when the door is closed. If the switch is defective, the microwave may appear powered but won’t start heating.
3. Check Internal Fuses:
   Microwaves have ceramic and thermal fuses that protect against power surges and overheating. A blown fuse will cause the microwave to lose power completely. These fuses can be tested with a multimeter and replaced if faulty. Always unplug the microwave before attempting any internal inspection or repairs.

If these steps don’t restore power, there may be more complex internal issues requiring professional repair.

We do not recommend disabling the safety lock unless there are no children in the home or location where the microwave is situated. If you do wish to disable it, follow these steps:

Danby microwaves that are 0.9 cu. ft. or larger with smoke sensor and safe plug. (MFM Models)

1. Press 7 Press 9 Hold ‘Door Open’ button for 3 seconds The word ‘Uloc’ will appear on the display. Your microwave child safety lock is now disabled.
   Danby microwaves that are 0.7 cu. ft. with the safe plug. (SMM Models)
2. Hold 0 for 2 seconds Press 7 Press 9

If your microwave won’t open after use, it’s likely that the safety lock has been activated. Safety regulations require that Danby microwaves come equipped with two types of child safety locking mechanisms. To prevent the control panel from being activated, and to prevent the door from being opened.

Steps to open the microwave door after use will depend on the model, but will be one of the following two options:

Option 1 

1. Press the ‘Door Open’ button.
2. Push the door button.

Option 2 

1. Press 7, Press 9, Hold ‘Door Open’ button for 3 seconds. The word ‘Uloc’ will appear on the display.

Push the door button.
