Quebec legal warranty of good working order

What Quebec’s Consumer Protection Act guarantees on new appliances bought in Quebec since October 5, 2026.

Since October 5, 2026, Quebec’s Consumer Protection Act gives consumers who buy certain new appliances in Quebec a legal warranty of good working order. It is free, it starts on the day the appliance is delivered, and it covers parts and labour. It applies on top of Danby’s own manufacturer warranty, which you will find in your owner’s manual.

The legal warranty applies to purchases made in Quebec.

Which products it covers

The legal warranty applies to new appliances of the types listed above, bought or leased long term in Quebec from October 5, 2026. Products of other types, such as microwaves, dehumidifiers, air purifiers and small appliances, are not covered by this legal warranty. Danby’s manufacturer warranty and the other legal warranties in the Act still apply to them.

If your appliance stops working properly

Contact Danby Consumer Service with your model number, serial number and proof of purchase. You can also contact the store that sold you the appliance. During the legal warranty period, repairs are carried out at no cost to you, including parts, labour and reasonable shipping. Normal upkeep, such as replacing a filter, and damage caused by abusive use of the appliance are not covered.

Your rights

Our manufacturer’s warranty gives you specific rights. Additional rights, including statutory warranties, may apply in certain jurisdictions. For products sold in Quebec, the Quebec Consumer Protection Act and the statutory warranty of good working order provide additional rights that cannot be excluded or limited. The Office de la protection du consommateur explains the legal warranty on its website.
